Overview

The University of Rochester's premier award, given to highly academically qualified first-year students — domestic and international — with substantial financial need who have overcome significant obstacles. All first-year applicants are automatically reviewed; no additional materials are required. Scholars receive a four-year cost-of-attendance scholarship, individual mentoring, an enrichment fund, and access to the Handler alumni network.

Eligibility Requirements

First-year fall-term applicant (domestic or international; transfer and spring applicants not eligible); demonstrated academic excellence and leadership potential; resiliency in the face of complex challenges; high financial need (CSS Profile and FAFSA where applicable); application by December 1 recommended

Scholarship Benefits

Four-year scholarship covering the full cost of attendance (tuition, fees, housing, food; health insurance if applicable), individual mentoring and academic support, enrichment fund up to $5,000, and access to the Handler Scholars alumni network
