How to Apply to a University from Jordan — Step-by-Step

From choosing your university to receiving your student visa — a complete guide to every step of the international university application process for Jordanian and Arab students. (Updated 2026)

Steps to Apply to International Universities

1

Choose the Right Universities (Month 1–3)

Start by selecting 6–10 universities divided into: 2–3 Reach schools (competitive), 3–4 Match schools (aligned with your GPA), and 2–3 Safety schools (very likely to accept you). Verify that each university's average accepted GPA matches yours.

2

Prepare Your Application File (Month 2–5)

A complete file includes: academic transcripts (certified and translated), 2 academic recommendation letters, a personal statement/SOP, an academic CV, IELTS or TOEFL scores, and any additional certificates.

3

Book Your English Language Exam (3–4 Months Before Applying)

Most universities require IELTS 6.0–7.0 or TOEFL 80–100. Book your exam date early so you have time to retake it if needed before your application deadline.

4

Write Your Personal Statement

The personal statement is the most important part of your application. It must answer: Why this specific university and program? What relevant experiences and skills do you bring? And what are your career goals after graduation?

5

Submit Applications (3–6 Months Before Deadline)

Submit early — do not wait until close to the deadline. Some universities admit early applicants more easily through Early Decision or Early Action rounds.

6

Follow Up and Accept an Offer

After applying, monitor your email and the university's application portal. Upon receiving an offer, you typically have 4–6 weeks to reply. Choose the best offer based on available scholarships and funding.

7

Apply for a Student Visa

After official acceptance, apply for a student visa at the target country's embassy in Jordan. Required documents typically include: acceptance letter, proof of funding, bank statement, valid passport, and passport photos.

"The biggest mistake Jordanian students make is starting too late. Applying to world universities needs at least a full year of real preparation — not three months. Start early enough to build a strong application file."
